Overview
Next Generation Nuclear Fission
Newcleo are leading the way in designing next-generation nuclear fission reactors that are smaller, safer and cheaper.
What started as an international research and development centre in Turin, Italy has now become a pan-European scale-up, headquartered in London. Bond were tasked to help this early-stage scale-up build out the business around their innovative technology.
Newcleo’s vision includes a new type of reactor fuel called MOX. It takes depleted uranium, with no current use, and extracted plutonium from spent nuclear fuel.
Challenge:
Hiring experienced people in the UK into a start-up that no one had heard of. Selling a role in a field that people had limited knowledge and understanding of. The whiteboard was blank with regards to people strategy with limited process, infrastructure or end-to-end business mapping conducted.
Solution:
Our consultancy model embedded a Talent Partner to not only shape the people strategy, but build out the commercial capability of the business too.
In the first two months, we built the finance team from scratch. Building out a team for the CFO comprised 5 pillar hires across Finance, Treasury, Audit & Compliance, Financial Planning and Accountancy. We saved Newcleo 73% against typical recruitment agency costs and achieved an average of 59 days to start for this crucial team.
Our main contact was from Italy and we upskilled the HR team on all the UK laws and regulations to support a launch into UK. We supported the relocation of people from the UK to Italy and back again and consulted on how to embed cross-continent ways of working between the teams. Leaving a legacy of a fully operational HR function.
This included:
- Employee handbook design
- Employee contract review
- Global Org structure design
- Benefits research & design
- Salary research & design
- Market mapping and location research
- Job Description build
- Relocation research and design
About working with Newcleo
At Bond, we are passionate about clever engineering and align ourselves with partners who are helping un-fuck our planet. After all, there is no planet B.
Newcleo’s vision includes a new type of reactor fuel called MOX. It takes depleted uranium, with no current use, and extracted plutonium from spent nuclear fuel.
Burning this existing waste from the current nuclear industry in their lead-cooled Small Modular Reactors (SMR) would create a virtually inexhaustible production of nuclear energy.
Smart and sustainable!
