Overview
Unified commerce for a new era
Commercetools is a versatile enterprise platform powering agentic-driven commerce for some of the world’s biggest brands. With 650 employees across the UK, US, Spain, Germany, and Australia, the business is entering an exciting new chapter, scaling globally, investing in AI innovation, and driving towards ambitious growth under new leadership in Boston.
But growth at this scale brings complexity. A shift back to hybrid working for culture had created attrition, and Commercetools’ TA team didn’t have the capacity to meet hiring targets. Thankfully, The CPO at Commerce tools was part of Bond’s House of Visionaries community and after attending a few events and being impressed by our community value, she reached out to Bond for help with plugging gaps and powering growth.
A flexible partner
Bond embedded in April 2025, adding the firepower needed to take pressure off internal teams and accelerate hiring.
• 11 hires in 4 months (7 of which landed in just 2 months)
• Roles across Sales, HR, and Tech functions
• Hard-to-find software engineers placed in Berlin, London, Boston, and Valencia
• Closed a Site Reliability Engineer role that had been open for 12 months
More than hiring, elevating the function
While scaling headcount was the immediate priority, Bond also partnered on the foundations of a stronger talent function:
Talent audit: Using our 5-stage Talent Theory process, we mapped strengths, gaps, and upcoming priorities.
Onboarding: Designed a centralised onboarding programme to give new hires a consistent, high-quality start.
Future focus: Next up, we are working on an AI project, which involves scoping AI-driven talent tools to boost efficiency, finding the top tools, tips and tricks to make the function future-ready.
Shifting the strategy
Before Bond, Commercetools relied heavily on inbound applications. We opened up new pipelines through proactive sourcing, directly engaging passive talent and building relationships with high-calibre candidates who weren’t actively on the market. This meant a faster time to hire, deeper talent pools, and access to skills the business couldn’t previously reach.
We’re excited to continue this exciting partnership!
